SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST – Early Intervention-Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE)

Classification: Licensed 190 day calendar

Reports to:  Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE) Program Coordinator or Director

FSLA Status:  Exempt

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

One of the earliest forms of learning for a child is language.  This position offers both roles of an evaluator and practitioner of language skills and how that impacts overall access to learning.  As a part of our team of extraordinary educators, you will have the joy of witnessing the development of a student’s ability to connect with their world.  This interesting and dynamic position offers opportunities to work closely with a team of evaluators to assess a student holistically, to learn from each other and you grow in your own skills.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1.  Master’s degree or higher.
  2.  One of the following:
  1. Demonstrated successful experience in special education, including work with high needs populations.
  2. Successful experience working with children birth – 5 years old.
  3. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  4. Meet requirements of finger-print-based criminal history record verification.
  5. Such alternatives to certain above qualifications may apply as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and/or Board of Directors.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION
 

This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.

  7. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.
  8. Maintain regular attendance at work.  Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
  9. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.
  10. Ability to lift, carry at least 40 pounds.
  11. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, and duties associated with this position.  The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it’s deemed necessary.

 

  1. Conduct individual evaluations in speech and language as well as other areas that may be assigned.
  2. Provide comprehensive written report of observations, assessment results, and recommendations.
  3. Confer with program personnel and parents about the evaluation results and recommendations.
  4. Coordinate and participate in the development of Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP’s) and in the determination of placements for eligible children.
  5. Coordinate and provide direct and/or consultation services to eligible EI/ECSE children in a variety of settings, including homes, childcare sites, ECSE classrooms and community-based classrooms.
  6. Develop and implement lesson plans/curriculum for individual or group therapy sessions.
  7. Oversee and provide direction for Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) or educational assistants assigned to the SLP’s groups or classes.
  8. Assume responsibility for assessing progress on IFSP goals and objectives and for completing annual assessments using the approved Curriculum Based Assessment (CBA).
  9. Consult with community preschool personnel regarding individual child program needs.
  10. Document services and bill Medicaid for eligible children.
  11. Participate in the Medicaid billing process for school-based services as directed.
