SPECIALIST FOR EARLY INTERVENTION/EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL

EDUCATION (EI/ECSE)

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

This position supports an ever-growing state developed and governed early childhood program that offers specialized services to our youngest learners. You will be part of a highly skilled team providing services and supports to eligible children ages birth though five and their families.  This position is multifaceted and dynamic and services may be provided through home visits, LBL stand-alone classrooms, LBL classrooms embedded in our constituent districts, and/or within community preschools. As part of this team of specialists, you will collaborate, coach, create, support and build connections with students, families, colleagues and community partners.  As you help our program grow and expand, you have the opportunity to stretch and develop professionally.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Special Education licensure from TSPC with Early Childhood Special Education endorsement or Oregon Department of Education EI/ECSE Authorization
  2. Demonstrated successful experience in Early Intervention, Early Childhood Special Education or Special Education.
  3. Effective working knowledge of special education process and law.
  4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  5. Successful experience providing direct and/or consultation EI/ECSE services in though home visiting and/or preschool teaching.
  6. Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail to meet deadlines.
  7. Ability to respond in a positive cooperative manner to direction.
  8. Ability to work independently, prioritize the work schedule, take initiative, and use good judgment in the performance of tasks.
  9. Ability to meet requirements of fingerprint-based criminal history record verification.
  10. Such alternatives to certain above qualifications may apply as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and/or Board of Directors.

  10. Maintain regular attendance at work.  Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
  11. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.
  12. Ability to lift, carry at least 40 pounds.
  13. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, and duties associated with this position.  The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it’s deemed necessary.

 

  1. Coordinate and participate in the development of Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) and in the determination of placements for eligible children.
  2. Coordinate and provide direct and consultative services to eligible EI/ECSE children in a variety of settings including homes, childcare sites, ECSE classrooms, and in community based preschool classrooms.
  3. Conduct standardized, curriculum based, and/or autism evaluations to participate in determining eligibility for EI/ECSE services by conferring with program personnel and parents about the evaluation results and recommendations.
  4. Provide comprehensive written reports of observations, assessment results, progress, and recommendations.
  5. Develop and implement lesson plans, curriculum, and coaching for home visits, classes, and groups.
  6. Oversee and provide direction for Instructional Assistants assigned to classes and groups.
  7. Consult with community preschool personnel regarding individual child program needs.
  8. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to families, students, community partners and district staff as directed.
  9. Maintain regular attendance at work.  Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings and following schedules.
  10. Work well within a team.  Promote good staff morale and put team needs above individual needs.
  11. Collaborate with others to complete tasks and solve problems in a positive manner
  12. Communicate effectively in a courteous, tactful and professional manner.
