SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER - Technology & Information Services
Classification: Classified - 260 day calendar
Reports to: Executive Information & Technology Manager (EITO)
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and maintenance of software applications and systems. This role involves collaborating with other engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure that software solutions meet the organization's needs, are secure, scalable, and perform optimally. The Senior Software Engineer will also mentor junior engineers, contribute to the strategic direction of software development, and ensure best practices are followed throughout the software lifecycle.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
2. Advanced certifications in software development or relevant technologies are a plus.
3. Minimum five years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality software applications.
4. Experience with a variety of programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++, JavaScript) and software development frameworks.
5. Strong experience in system design, software architecture, and development best practices.
6. In-depth knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall.
7. Proficiency in coding languages and software development tools.
8. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex software challenges.
9. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
10. Strong leadership and mentoring abilities to guide junior engineers and lead technical projects.

9. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.
10. Ability to lift, carry at least 40 pounds.
11. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.
12. Provide own transportation to numerous settings that may include occasional evenings and overnight stays based on departmental needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Software Design, Development & Customization: Lead the design, development, and customization of software solutions that support organizational goals, with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and performance.
2. Data Integration & System Interoperability: Architect and implement secure, efficient integrations between internal and third-party systems to ensure seamless data exchange and workflow automation.
3. Application Optimization & Support: Maintain and enhance existing software systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement improvements to increase system efficiency and user satisfaction.
4. Project Leadership: Lead software development projects, from requirements gathering through delivery. Define technical direction, delegate tasks, and ensure timely, high-quality outcomes.
5. Collaboration Across Teams: Coordinate with infrastructure, security, and business teams to ensure software solutions align with system architecture and user needs.
6. Testing & Quality Assurance: Oversee testing strategies, conduct code reviews, and ensure quality assurance standards are met throughout the development lifecycle.
7. Tool & Technology Management: Evaluate and adopt tools, frameworks, and methodologies that enhance software development efficiency, security, and sustainability.
8. Documentation & Technical Standards: Maintain system and code documentation. Define and promote best practices, coding standards, and reusable patterns across the development team.
9. Mentorship & Team Development: Mentor Junior Software Engineers and support Software Specialists. Provide guidance on technical challenges and foster team skill development.
10. Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay current on emerging technologies and software trends. Identify opportunities to improve development workflows, integration strategies, and user-facing systems.
SALARY AND BENEFIT INFORMATION
- Salary and benefit information shown are based on full-time employment (1.0 FTE) based on the current school year
- Placement on the Linn Benton Lincoln ESD Classified salary schedule will be commensurate with applicant’s qualifications, relevant training, and experience
- Linn Benton Lincoln ESD will provide an Insurance CAP to assist with health, dental and vision insurance premiums
